The wording is the positive modification of a line from the poem „To the Mistral Wind“ (1884) by Friedrich Nietzsche, for whom „dancing along with the winds“ served as a metaphor for the freedom of the arts and sciences.

„… Tanzen wir in tausend Weisen.
Frei – sei unsre Kunst geheißen,
Fröhlich – unsre Wissenschaft! …

Wer nicht tanzen kann mit Winden,
Wer sich wickeln muß mit Binden,
Angebunden, Krüppel-Greis,
Wer da gleicht den Heuchel-Hänsen,
Ehren-Tölpeln, Tugend-Gänsen,
Fort aus unsrem Paradeis!“

Aus: Friedrich Nietzsche, „An den Mistral. Ein Tanzlied“, 1884

„… Let our knowledge be our gladness,
Let our art be sport and madness,
All that's joyful shall be true! ...

Those who cannot dance along as quickly
With the winds—we'll have no sickly,
Crippled, withered, in our crew;
Off with hypocrites and preachers,
Proper folk and prosy teachers,
Sweep them from our heaven blue!“

From: Friedrich Nietzsche, „To The Mistral Wind. A Dancing Song“, 1884.
Translation by Oscar Levy, 1910 (above, the „dance“ part is compiled more literally )
